Little Luna

Theatre Classes for Children Ages 4-7
Saturdays 10am-11am
January 7th - February 25th, 2017

In the Little Luna program, young performers discover the creative elements of drama through a basis in story-telling. Through fun games and exercises, Little Luna participants learn about different theatrical elements (sets, costumes, props, scripts, etc.) and how they combine to create a performance. The class culminates in a sharing for family and friends.

The class is specially designed with creative minds and play as the focus. Through the use of theatre games and mini-performance workshops, young actors receive a comprehensive study of the various aspects of acting and performing. Topics include voice and speech, character development, creative expression through movement and solo and group improv, just to name a few. Actors will have an opportunity to perform for each other every class, and will work together to develop self-confidence, team/group dynamic, body and spatial awareness. The class culminates in a sharing for family and friends.

Our newest class offering for young performers ready to move beyond exercises and theatre games and dive into scene study and monologue work. Using age appropriate material from published plays, children will learn about character development and text analysis, with a focus on the technical skills necessary for a strong stage performance. The class culminates in a sharing for family and friends.

Luna's Song and Dance Class allows offers a fun introduction to musical theatre for our youngest artists. Children are introduced to all the different elements of musical theatre (acting, singing, dance and stage presence) and given the opportunity to discover their individual talents, creativity and self-expression. The class culminates in a sharing for family and friends.

Luna's Musical Theater Class allows children of all experience levels an opportunity to discover their individual talents, creativity and performing interests while exploring the basics of Musical Theater (acting, singing and dance). Young performers work collaboratively to explore vocal technique, character-based song interpretation, and choreography from Broadway musicals. The class culminates in a sharing for family and friends.

Meet Our Teachers

Danielle Renee Thompson
Danielle Renee Thompson first began her theater training at Newark's Arts High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Danielle recently starred in the Off-Broadway production of the world premiere of My Occasion of Sin by Monica Bauer directed by Frances Hill at Urban Stages Theater in NYC. Additionally, over the past couple of years, she has been touring a one women show, Warriors Don't Cry by Eisa Davis, directed by Trazana Beverly in New York and Connecticut through the Urban Stages Outreach program. When Danielle is not on the stage, she is off sharing her love for arts education in the classroom. She has been an acting teaching artist for New Jersey Performing Arts Center since '05 for programs like the Summer Youth Performance Workshop and the Young Artist Institute. She also teaches theater, performance technique and ballroom dance for the In-School residency programs at NJPAC.
Daryl L. Stewart
Daryl L. Stewart is an actor, director and teaching artist. Stewart's regional music theater credits include Gershwins' My One & Only, The Wild Party, Disney's Aida, Carousel, Ragtime, Into The Woods, Stepshow (NYMF) and Five Guys Named Moe. Director/choreographer credits include: The Wiz, Once On This Island, Annie, Seussical, Once Upon A Mattress, High School Musical, Fame and Disney's The Lion King Experience. Education: New York University, New York Conservatory for Drama and Papermill Playhouse Conservatory. Stewart serves on the faculty of several arts organizations including NJPAC Center for Arts Education, Luna Stage Theater Co. and Institute of Music. He is the 2014 Urban League YP Honoree for the Arts, Two-Time Papermill Rising Star Nominee and a 2013 BMC Award Nominee. iamdarylstewart.com | @thedarylstewart
