Supernatural: The Play

Set in none other than Brooklyn, New York in Bed-Stuy, Supernatural is the funny and insightful play about Natural Hair journeys. Women from all points of the globe are gathering by the droves to celebrate their natural hair, leaving chemicals behind and making the bold statement that their hair is just fine. The play explores the lives of six women who are forced to confront their natural hair and themselves. Filled with stories of triumph, these women are guaranteed to make you laugh and will inspire you to think about what God gave you.

THE LUNA FUSION FEST: THE HEART & SOUL OF ROCK & JAZZ
The festival kicked off Saturday, July 28th at 3 PM with SHORT FUSE - a free children’s workshop with internationally acclaimed percussionist and educator Gregg Bendian (Cecil Taylor, Pat Metheny, Ornette Coleman, William Paterson, Yale) designed to educate, entertain, and inspire.

At 8 PMTHE MAHAVISHNU PROJECT electrified the night as Gregg Bendian was joined by guitarist Jesse Gress, keyboardist Neil Alexander, and bassist Doug Lunn. The Mahavishnu Project reinterprets classic compositions from Jeff Beck, Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin, and Jan Hammer, while seamlessly meshing the beauty of their intricate charts with their own imaginative proficiency.

On Sunday, July 29th at 3 PM, The Luna Fusion Fest resumed with SOUNDS LIKE FUN - a free recording and production seminar hosted by freelance audio engineer and sound designer Steve Brown (National Public Radio, WBGO-FM, Institute of Audio Research), who sampled, chopped, and remixed classic fusion records utilizing the award-winning Pro Tools audio production software.

At 7 PM, acclaimed alto saxophonist and bandleader Ed Palermo (Tony Bennett, James Brown, Lena Horne, The Tonight Show) explored the timeless wisdom of Frank Zappa during the debut of his latest ensemble entitled EDDY’S CHEMISTRY SET. Luna patrons were captivated by the aural immediacy provided by electric violinist Katie Jacoby, guitarist Bruce McDaniel, saxophonist Cliff Lyons, saxophonist Barbara Cifelli, drummer Ray Marchica, bassist Paul Adamy, keyboardist Paul Kooshian, and pianist Bob Quaranta.

Directed by award-winning director Hafiz Farid and co-written by Mr. Farid and Shelley Grodner Seidenstein, the film is based on the best-selling book, The Presumption of Guilt by Charles J. Ogeltree.

Many prominent scholars, authors and religious leaders are featured in the film, including Charles J. Ogletree, Maya Angelou, Alan Dershowitz, Terrie M. Williams, Anita Hill, Tim Wise, Michelle Alexander, Lawrence Watson, Richard L. Taylor, Reverend Reginald Jackson, Larry Hamm, and Reverend Eugene Rivers.
