Vita and Virginia

by Eileen Atkins
adapted from correspondence between
Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West

Vita Sackville-West was a wealthy aristocrat, poet, and author. Virginia Woolf was of more modest means, and widely considered to be a brilliant writer. Yet, these two women shared a long and complex relationship. Told mostly through letters that sparkle with wit and insight, Vita and Virginia sheds an intimate and provocative light on these two visionaries as they negotiate what it means to be a sexual woman in their respective worlds.

“What a wonderful evening! Compliments of Nancy, my wonderful friend and writing buddy, I sat in on the dress rehearsal of a new local production of ‘Vita and Virginia’, a play by Eileen Atkins. It’s being mounted by Luna Stage, a local theatre group — and it was terrific! Far better than the show I saw some years ago in Manhattan. What amazing talent abounds: writers, actresses and actors, directors — there are so many creative people with stories to tell and gifts to share…” Read more of this blog post by KarinWritesDangerously, 9/27/12

“I brought 3 friends to see ‘Vita and Virginia’ last night and loved it! How wonderful to see interesting and exciting drama locally. Great direction and fabulous acting.”
- Marilyn Olin, 10/5/12

“Thank you for an excellent production. The cast, crew and director worked hard and it showed. I learned more than I ever knew about these two famous women authors and their times. This is a high-caliber theatre experience.” - Sally Malanga, 10/7/12

“The play was elegant, charming, and intelligent – another beautiful experience in your great, very professional theater.  I grew up on Russian theater and you never fail our expectations. It’s always such a treat and pleasure to see great pieces of art in your own backyard.
Thank you so much!” – Olga Serebrol, 10/10/12

“I saw your play with three good friends; all of us love good theater.  I was not disappointed with this one!  It was more than two hours of bliss, listening to the charming dialogue between these two ladies.  You re-created the language and styles of the period, and I was entertained every minute.  It was a rich evening, rich in language and expression and feelings.”
- Lydia S., 10/24/12
