Musical Theatre Workshop: Phase 2

Musical Workshop: Phase 2 is a program dedicated to the development of an ensemble piece of a contemporary musical theatre to be curated and cultivated by writer/director Tony Scheitinger. The workshop is open to high-school-aged actors, singers, dancers, musicians and storytellers who are ready to roll up their sleeves, take some risks and activate their creative spark through a combination of games, improv, composition and discussion. The sessions will be held at Luna Stage on Sunday afternoons starting on Sept. 29 and running through March 1. Admission is by audition only.

Performers should prepare a short song to be sung a cappella, and anything else that best showcases your talent (share a short monologue, tell a joke, play a musical instrument).

Do you have a story to tell? Do you want to write a short play and perform it? Creative Response Team is a collaborative playwriting/acting workshop culminating in monthly performances, inviting teens to respond creatively to issues facing them and their communities. Each cycle culminates in a sharing of original work for an invited audience.

The Homeschool course of study is in alignment with NJ Learning Standards for the Visual and Performing Arts.

In this 12-week course, students will explore four distinct aspects of theatre, culminating in a final sharing for family and friends.

Weeks 1-3: Choreography and Movement

Weeks 4-6: Masks

Weeks 7-9: Puppetry

Weeks 10-12: Devised Theater – Culminating in a final share

Each lesson will include acting exercises and theatre games. Students will also learn about the history and application of each content area. This program will foster acting skills, confidence, creativity, movement skills, and encourage integrated observation and self-reflection. As the units progress, students will have the opportunity to invite family and friends to observe their work.
