American Moor

Written and Performed by Keith Hamilton Cobb
Directed by Kim Weild

Tickets: $15
90 minutes, no intermission

An intelligent, intuitive, indomitable, large, black American male actor auditioning for the role of Shakespeare's iconic character, Othello, must engage an age-old process that invariably ends up with one large African-American man on stage responding to white decision makers who presume to understand, and ultimately dictate, how such a man would/should behave in an alien society. Powerful, dynamic, humorous, confrontational, ironic, and truthful throughout, American Moor is a poetic, unsettling exploration of race in America, of how we see only what we want to see of one another and how the pall of privileged perspectives is ultimately so injurious to us all.

Presented in association of SenovvA and Brikerati.
