Teen Playwriting Workshop Ages 12+

This interactive workshop for teens is limited to 8 participants, and will include individualized writing prompts, opportunities to hear your work aloud, guided feedback, and support in polishing one (or more!) short plays. It is open to young people twelve and up with any level of writing experience

Meet the Instructor


Kaela Mei-Shing Garvin is a queer mixed Asian American writer, producer, and performer. Kaela’s a founding member of Undiscovered Countries, a Brooklyn-based incubator of new and developing interdisciplinary art. Kaela’s produced and conducted interviews for Hearabouts (Asian American Midwest Radio), written essays for The Clyde Fitch Report, Reappropriate, & Lady Parts, romance novels for A&E Media, and webisodes for Super Deluxe. Kaela is a 2020 Bay Area Playwrights Festival finalist, a 2021 finalist for the Alliance Theater/Kendeda Playwriting award and the recipient of six playwriting awards from the Kennedy Center, including a distinguished achievement Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, the Mark Twain Comic Playwriting Award, and two Paul Stephen Lim Playwriting Awards. Kaela’s work has been developed with Montana Repertory Theater and Indiana University, and produced in New York at venues like Dixon Place, the New Ohio, Tom Noonan’s Paradise Factory, and Ars Nova.
